Significant spike in air conditioner sales during the early summer months, with the highest number of orders coming from Budapest and the lowland regions of Hungary, eMAG reports.
The air conditioning ”season” began in earnest during the first two weeks of June and remained strong until a wave of severe storms hit the country in mid-July. Geographically, Budapest and Pest County led in order volumes, followed closely by counties in the Great Hungarian Plain.
Experts suggest the high demand in Csongrád-Csanád County may be influenced by rising urban temperatures in Szeged, where recent climate research has revealed summer averages comparable to Mediterranean cities such as Rome and Thessaloniki.
On average, eMAG customers spent between HUF 150,000 and HUF 160,000 (approx. €385–€410) on air conditioning units. Notably, one-third of these purchases were financed through installment plans.
Split air conditioners dominate the market
Among the top 40 most popular air conditioning models, 35 were split-type units, with only five being mobile versions. The most sought-after brand was eMAG’s own Star-Light label, followed by Bosch, Midea, Ariston, Manta, and Tesla.
Many customers bundled their purchases with accessories such as air deflectors, cleaning kits, and installation components, typically spending an additional HUF 8,000 to HUF 10,000 (€20–€25) on these extras.
