SPAR’s “Regions’ Treasures” program, launched to highlight domestic small producers, expanded significantly in 2025, marking one of its strongest growth years yet, as product turnover increased by nearly 60%.
By the end of the year, 569 products from 139 Hungarian small producers were available in SPAR stores, up from 532 products and 128 suppliers the previous year. These partners collectively support about 800 jobs across the country.
Regional diversity and expanding range
The initiative operates through seven regional center. The largest supplier networks are based in Budapest, with 26 partners and 110 products, and in the Mecsek region, where 25 suppliers contribute 84 products. Additional hubs are in Venence, Zala, Alföld, Nyírség, and Kisalföld.
The portfolio now spans 23 product categories, from dairy, eggs, and meats to dry pasta, artisanal snacks, beverages, and desserts. New categories introduced in 2025 include gluten-free products and seasonal candies.
Among the best-selling categories were ice cream, eggs, dairy, dry pasta, and meat products, while traditional artisanal snacks and pastries, such as cheese sticks, tallérs, and puszedlik, enjoyed surging popularity.
From Hungarian shelves to international markets
A milestone moment in the program’s evolution came when one of its local stars reached foreign markets. The Bocco Doro chocolate ice cream, already a SPAR own-brand success in Hungary, entered Croatian and Slovenian stores under the company’s regional expansion plan.
SPAR Hungary continues to mentor and develop its partners through branding and scaling support. In the case of Zalai Dödölle, SPAR collaborated from packaging design to listing, while SEMEC Hús leveraged the partnership to expand its market presence step by step.
