Second-hand market continued to gain momentum in 2025, with faster transactions and rising appetite for high-value items, according to an annual trend summary released by Jófogás, one of the country’s largest online marketplaces.

As in previous years, free listings remained the most searched keyword, but buyers also showed a growing willingness to pay premium prices. Several record-speed transactions were registered, including in the real estate segment, where attractive listings are increasingly snapped up within a single day.

January and November drive marketplace activity

On average, around 400,000 listings were uploaded to Jófogás every month this year. Clear seasonality patterns emerged, with January and November standing out as the busiest months, driven by the New Year reset and the Black Friday period.

Category-level trends varied. In May, listings for baby and maternity products doubled compared to other months, likely reflecting seasonal wardrobe changes and spring decluttering.

Clothing, sports and leisure items peaked in January, while electronics and household products saw a sharp increase in November, fueled by holiday shopping and New Year’s resolutions.

January recorded the highest number of verified purchases across all categories, with demand remaining elevated throughout the year. Notably, the first confirmed purchase of the year took place at 1:20 a.m. on New Year’s Day, when a user bought a Hidizs MP145 hi-fi headset.

Faster sales and big-ticket transactions

Market dynamics accelerated significantly in November, when the average selling time dropped to around three weeks. In the vehicle segment, a platform upgrade allowing listings to be cross-posted to Facebook Marketplace resulted in cars selling three times faster than before.

Despite “free” remaining the most popular search term, buyers showed strong appetite for expensive items. The most expensive item sold via the marketplace interface was a Lego Star Wars bundle, which changed hands for 350,000 forints.

The platform’s 50 fastest-selling products were all purchased within one day, primarily from electronics, household goods, and sports categories. The fastest sale was a Kensington Contour 15.6-inch laptop bag, while the most expensive among the rapid deals was a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, sold for 290,000 forints.

Vehicles and real estate gain speed

Vehicle listings were most active in January and February, with November also posting strong numbers. The most traded car brands were Opel, Suzuki, Volkswagen and Ford, each recording 150–250 sales over the year.

Real estate followed a similar pattern, with January, March and November emerging as the most active months. The most expensive property sold in the first half of the year was a 37-room hotel in Hajdúszoboszló for 570 million forints, a record later surpassed by a family house in Debrecen, sold for 590 million forints.
