Wolt users continued to favor hamburgers and pizza in 2025, but the platform’s latest annual summary shows that fast commerce is rapidly evolving beyond food delivery, as every fourth order last year was for non-restaurant items.

A typical Hungarian Wolt user most often places orders on Fridays, while Tuesdays remain the quietest day for restaurants on the platform. The largest-volume order of 2025 also came from a pizzeria, where one customer had 60 pizzas delivered at once. Meanwhile, the most expensive single order, worth nearly HUF 3 million, was placed at a Japanese restaurant.

Gourmet cooking gains ground

While ready-made meals remain dominant, gourmet home cooking is on the rise. Delicatessen stores ranked as the third most popular category on Wolt in 2025, suggesting that more consumers are ordering premium ingredients to prepare meals themselves.

Hungarian-style dishes were the fourth most-ordered category domestically, and they also proved popular among Wolt users in Poland, as well as in Slovakia, Norway, Germany, and Serbia.

In Wolt Market’s online supermarket, mineral water and soft drinks topped the list of delivered products. Bread, bakery items, cheeses, and meats also ranked high, reflecting demand for fresh, everyday essentials.

Depending on the size and weight of orders, Wolt uses bicycle, motorbike, or car couriers. This flexibility made it possible for one customer to place a HUF 1.9 million grocery order from a Tesco store in Csepel.

Pregnancy tests, pet food, and high-end tech

More than half of Wolt’s Hungarian customers ordered non-food items in 2025, ranging from electronics and beauty products to toys and flowers. Among bouquets, roses, tulips, and houseplants were the most popular choices.

Pet-related purchases remained strong, with hay, cat litter, and cat food leading the category. Notably, hay overtook cat litter as the top-selling pet product, signaling a rise in rabbit ownership, where high-quality hay is essential.

Pharmacies also saw steady demand throughout the year, with pregnancy tests, nasal sprays, cough syrups, and Covid tests frequently ordered. In beauty and personal care, nail files, nail polish, hair conditioners, and perfumes dominated sales.

Although premium smartphones are increasingly delivered by courier — with many customers ordering the latest iPhone 17 via Wolt, the most popular tech items overall were phone chargers, instant cameras, room fans, and wireless headphones.

In the toy category, board games led the way, with titles such as Unicorns – The Scary Herd, The MindChameleon7 Wonders Duel, and Sky Team among the favorites. More than 200 board games were ordered through Wolt, many likely ending up under Christmas trees.
