BMW will begin series production of its new fully electric iX4 at its Debrecen factory in autumn 2026, adding a second model to the facility less than a year after manufacturing began.
The announcement marks another milestone for the German carmaker’s €2 billion investment, which has already produced more than 50,000 BMW iX3 vehicles. The new BMW iX4 is part of the company’s Neue Klasse generation of electric vehicles, strengthening Debrecen’s position within BMW’s global manufacturing network.
50,000 vehicles in nine months and production around the clock
BMW reached the 50,000-unit milestone in July 2026, approximately nine months after production started. The rapid expansion was driven by strong demand for the iX3, prompting BMW to introduce a second production shift in February, earlier than originally planned.
By September, the company had moved to a three-shift production schedule, allowing the Debrecen factory to operate around the clock. The acceleration followed strong customer demand, with BMW reporting approximately 100,000 European orders for the iX3 within a year of its world premiere.
A second Neue Klasse model joins the production line
The iX4 represents BMW’s next step in expanding its electric SUV portfolio. Designed as a fully electric Sports Activity Coupé, the new model combines the company’s Neue Klasse technology with a sportier, coupé-inspired silhouette.
The iX4 is scheduled to enter the market in March 2027, initially with two drivetrain configurations. A higher-performance BMW iX4 M60 xDrive will follow.
