Continental Dohányipari has inaugurated a HUF 14.5 billion capacity expansion across its Sátoraljaújhely and Miskolc sites, a project that received HUF 3 billion in government support and will create 60 new jobs while securing over 900 more.
The investment will lift the company’s export share to 75% from 50%, strengthening its position in markets like Hungary, Spain and Greece. A new 3,600 sqm finished goods warehouse was added.
The family‑owned firm and the region’s largest employer with 750 direct staff and thousands indirectly, used the upgrade to modernise production buildings and boost energy efficiency, with panels now covering 15% of consumption.
Continental’s 2024 turnover hit HUF 84.5 billion (+9.5% YoY), pre‑tax profit above prior levels, and staff up 15%. The group traces its roots to 1895, investing HUF 27 billion since 1998 across Hungary and Germany (via Continental Tobacco Germany GmbH since 2004).
