Hungary’s music industry booms in 2025: Vinyl sales surge, streaming hits milestone

Hungary’s music sector delivered a blockbuster 2025, with physical sales hitting HUF 1,920 billion (€4.9 million) and digital revenues reaching HUF 12,116 billion (€31.1 million), powered by vinyl resurgence and streaming dominance.

MAHASZ (Magyar Hangfelvétel-kiadók Szövetsége) data through June shows international acts still rule physical formats, but domestic talent captured the digital wave. Local recording industry rose over HUF 14 billion in 2025.

Physical shipments totaled 658,584 units across singles, albums, videos and more, with vinyl exploding to 269,959 units worth HUF 1,265 billion (€3.25 million). CDs followed at 360,394 units for HUF 600 billion (€1.54 million), while internationals grabbed 58% of physical value versus 42% domestic.

Digital tells another story: paid audio streams generated HUF 7,790 billion (€20 million), video streams HUF 3,351 billion (€8.6 million), totaling HUF 12,013 billion (€30.8 million), with domestic content edging internationals 35%-63%.

Vinyl stole the show in physical formats, raking in nearly two-thirds of album revenue. Internationals dominated vinyl (HUF 996 bn), but domestics held strong on CDs (HUF 256 bn intl vs. HUF 391 bn.

Digital revenues dwarfed physical 6:1, led by subscriptions and ads. Downloads faded (HUF 104 bn), but sync licenses added HUF 102 bn. Domestics punched above weight in video streams (60% share).
