Hungary’s MÁVPlusz public transport app recorded its strongest sales week to date, with passengers purchasing 546,000 tickets and passes worth HUF 526 million between August 9 and 16, according to Transportation and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy.
International rail ticket sales were introduced to MÁVPlusz in mid-June 2026. During August 9-16 alone, passengers bought more than 10,000 international train tickets worth over HUF 62 million through the application, representing almost 12% of the value of all purchases made through MÁVPlusz during the record week.
Domestic train and bus tickets, passes and seat reservations can also be purchased through the platform. Domestic train and bus tickets and seat reservations purchased through MÁVPlusz are eligible for a 15% digital discount.
What is MÁVPlusz?
MÁVPlusz is MÁV Group’s mobile application for public transport journey planning, passenger information and digital ticketing. It is the successor to the older MÁV mobile application and was launched in spring 2025, with functions being added progressively.
Real-time map-based passenger information returned to the app in July 2026. Users can track trains, HÉV suburban railway services and TramTrain services, while regional views also show intercity buses and deviations from their scheduled times.
Graphic seat selection is next
MÁVPlusz is set to receive another major ticketing feature: graphic seat reservations. Passengers will be able to view the layout of a train carriage, see available seats and select the exact seat they want to reserve. The feature is currently available through MÁV’s web ticketing system, but not yet in MÁVPlusz.
MÁV’s stated objective is to progressively turn MÁVPlusz into an integrated digital platform covering journey planning, real-time passenger information and ticket purchases across Hungary’s public transport network.
