Refurbished smartphone marketplace Rejoy.hu is seeing a strong start to the autumn resale season, with most users trading in their iPhone 13 models. Between October and January, Hungarians sell 70% more smartphones than in other months, according to company data.
While previous years saw the iPhone 11 dominate listings, this season’s bestseller is the iPhone 13, launched in 2021. The models remain in strong condition and command attractive resale prices. Among Android devices, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S23 are the top choices.
Rejoy still accepts older models like the iPhone 7 (2016) and Samsung Galaxy S10 (2019), which often find new life as secondary phones. The release of the iPhone 17 has also sparked demand for recent models, prompting Rejoy to actively seek out iPhone 15 and 16 devices.
The seasonal spike aligns with the Black Friday and holiday shopping period, when many consumers upgrade to new devices and offload their old ones. Rejoy’s June survey found that one in ten smartphone sellers in Hungary now use the platform, double last year’s figure.
Rejoy.hu offers two payout options for sellers: a higher price with a 20-day wait, or a lower but faster payment within 3–5 business days. Nearly 90% of Hungarian, Romanian, and Bulgarian users opt for the higher return, while in Greece, almost 40% choose the quicker payout.
The company reports a 26% year-on-year increase in devices sold in “like-new” condition, as much as HUF 20 billion worth of idle smartphones may still be sitting unused across the country, according to Bence Blaumann, Rejoy’s Managing Director.
