Schneider Electric’s Dunavecse smart factory has significantly outperformed expectations in solar energy production, with rooftop panels covering 40% of the site’s electricity needs in June, well above the projected 30%.
The 5,000-square-meter photovoltaic system installed on the facility’s roof supplied enough power on peak days to meet the monthly energy consumption of 30 average Hungarian households.
The factory, inaugurated in May 2022 and currently undergoing expansion, features a total of 28,000 square meters of solar panels, with an estimated annual output of 885,000 kWh. The solar installation was designed and operated by E.ON, which integrated Schneider Electric components wherever possible.
A full green Infrastructure
The DSPS factory integrates several other green technologies. Heating and cooling are powered by a geothermal system, while rainwater collected on-site is reused for irrigation and sanitation. Loading docks are designed with airlocks to reduce heat loss, and waste heat from air compressors is repurposed for hot water and heating.
Smart building technologies, including motion and presence sensors, air quality monitors, and intelligent LED systems, regulate climate control and lighting across offices and production spaces. The facility also supports sustainable mobility with 30 electric vehicle and 25 e-bike charging stations, all powered by renewable energy from the solar plant.
