Hungarian workers are landing new jobs faster than ever, with the average job hunt now clocking in at just three months and 22 days, down sharply from over five months in Q1 2025, according to a Profession.hu survey.

The acceleration signals a tightening market where candidates move quicker, but unemployment is playing a bigger role: 61% of active seekers started their search jobless, up from 53% last year.

Job hunting has woven deeper into daily life. Fully 40% of active seekers now devote several hours weekly to applications, 35% clock an hour, and 25% browse opportunistically, a surge in intensity over 2025 levels.

The shift underscores a bifurcated landscape: employed upgraders still dominate, but the unemployed cohort’s rise points to layoffs or economic pressures quickening the pace.

Faster placements reflect employer urgency amid skills gaps and retention battles, even as Hungary’s unemployment ticks higher. Profession.hu notes applications are more targeted, with firms honing position specs.

For workers, the message is clear: treat the hunt like a part-time job. With 13% actively seeking and 21% switched in the past year (plus 33% passive), competition sharpens, but opportunities abound for the relentless.
