BMW has reached a major production milestone at its newest manufacturing facility in Hungary, producing the 50,000th BMW iX3 at its Debrecen plant just nine months after series production began.
The company said the rapid increase in output was supported by the introduction of a second production shift in February 2026, several months ahead of the original schedule, allowing the Hungarian plant to respond to significantly stronger-than-expected customer demand.
Fastest ramp-up in BMW’s history
“The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen. Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant,” said Raymond Wittmann, BMW AG Board Member responsible for Production.
According to BMW, the factory is also approaching another milestone, with customer orders expected to soon exceed 100,000 units, highlighting the commercial success of the iX3 since its market launch.
Hungary’s most advanced automotive plant
Officially inaugurated in late 2025 following an investment of more than €2 billion, the Debrecen factory is one of the largest greenfield automotive investments ever undertaken in Hungary.
Built on a site covering more than 400 hectares, it is BMW Group’s newest production facility and the first specifically designed around the BMW iFACTORY manufacturing concept.
The plant operates entirely on renewable electricity during normal operations, incorporates highly digitalised production processes and houses on-site production of BMW’s sixth-generation high-voltage battery packs, significantly reducing logistics requirements and improving manufacturing efficiency.
BMW Debrecen site was designed as a fossil-fuel-free production facility, relying on advanced digital technologies, artificial intelligence and highly automated manufacturing systems to improve productivity while reducing environmental impact.
Neue Klasse can be a global success
The BMW iX3 is the first production vehicle based on the company’s Neue Klasse architecture, which will underpin dozens of future BMW electric models over the coming years.
The platform introduces an 800-volt electrical architecture, sixth-generation eDrive technology, significantly faster charging capabilities and improved energy efficiency, representing BMW’s biggest technological leap in electric mobility in decades.
