Nestlé has completed a HUF 193 billion expansion of its Purina pet food factory in Bük, western Hungary, lifting annual production capacity to as much as 500,000 tonnes as the company’s Hungarian revenue continued to grow in the first half of 2026.

The latest development added three production units and a fully automated high-bay warehouse, as it helped create around 600 jobs in recent years, taking employment at the Bük site to 1,800.

Capacity reaches 500,000 tonnes

Nestlé has owned the Bük factory since 1998 and has invested a cumulative HUF 325 billion in the site. During the latest five-year expansion programme, annual production capacity increased by more than 100,000 tonnes and can now reach approximately 500,000 tonnes.

Production volumes increased another 12% year-on-year in the first half of 2026 as the final new capacity entered operation. Around 95% of products manufactured in Bük are exported to almost 50 countries.

The newly completed automated warehouse can accommodate around 50,000 pallets and is designed to handle the higher production and export volumes generated by the expanded plant.

The HUF 193 billion investment was completed without direct Hungarian government or EU financial support, according to government information released at the inauguration.

Hungarian revenue rises 3%

The factory expansion comes as Nestlé Hungária reported first-half net revenue of approximately HUF 174 billion, up almost 3% year-on-year, attributed the increase primarily to higher sales volumes.

Coffee was one of the strongest categories, with turnover increasing at a double-digit rate, while confectionery and culinary products also recorded higher sales. Nespresso revenue increased as well, although the company said pricing was the main driver in that category.

Nestlé’s Hungarian pet food business also recorded significant sales growth during the period, supported by the continued expansion of the Bük factory. Export sales exceeded HUF 35 billion in the first six months.

1,500 Hungarian suppliers

Nestlé says it works with around 1,500 Hungarian suppliers, purchasing approximately HUF 75 billion of raw materials, packaging and services from them annually, as agricultural sourcing has become particularly important for the pet food factory.
