ParTec AG to develop multi-billion euro AI data center with quantum and solar integration

The project is being positioned as one of Central Europe’s most ambitious AI and energy infrastructure initiatives to date

German supercomputing company ParTec AG and Hungarian infrastructure firm 3D Lézertechnika Zrt. have signed a letter of intent to develop a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center and renewable energy facility near the Paks Nuclear Power Plant.

Dubbed the Paks Data Centre Campus, the development will feature a modular hyperscale AI data center, a 530-hectare agro-photovoltaic solar park, and a battery energy storage system (BESS).

Quantum-ready, energy-efficient infrastructure

At the center of the project is a next-generation data center with a projected power consumption of up to 96 megawatts, optimized for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.

The facility will be built using ParTec’s dynamic Modular System Architecture (dMSA) and ParaStation Modulo Software Suite, technologies the company also uses in JUPITER, Europe’s first Exascale supercomputer.

ParTec’s system is designed to be quantum-computing ready, with a hardware-agnostic integration framework that allows future quantum expansion. Waste heat from the center will be reused to support nearby agricultural operations.

This is a blueprint for combining digital and green infrastructure in a way that serves both economic and ecological goals

Bernhard Frohwitter, CEO of ParTec AG

Strategic importance for Hungary and the EU

The Hungarian government has voiced strong support for the initiative, which aligns with its broader ambitions to become a European hub for AI, HPC, and quantum research.

With the Paks Data Center Campus, Hungary strengthens its role in Europe’s digital future. It’s a project that integrates innovation, agriculture, and sustainability

Prof. Dr. László Palkovics, Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence

Hungary offers a combination of low energy prices, favorable tax conditions, and skilled technical talent, making it an increasingly attractive destination for digital infrastructure investments.

ParTec AG is a Munich-based developer of modular high-performance computing and quantum systems, providing infrastructure and software solutions for some of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers.

3D Lézertechnika Zrt., headquartered in Budapest, focuses on integrated infrastructure and energy projects, with an emphasis on sustainability and digital technologies.
