Audi’s relationship with Hungary extends far beyond the showroom. While registrations of new Audi vehicles rose 9.6% in the first half of 2026, the German premium brand is also one of the country’s largest industrial investors through its plant in Győr, home to the company’s largest engine manufacturing facility worldwide.
According to Porsche Hungaria, the exclusive importer of Audi vehicles in Hungary, 1,904 new Audi passenger carswere registered during the first six months of the year, representing a 9.6% increase compared with the same period of 2025.
The performance lifted Audi’s share of Hungary’s overall passenger car market to 3.7%, while the brand retained a commanding 23% share of the country’s premium vehicle segment.
But, 88% of all Audi vehicles sold in Hungary during the first half were fleet purchases, underlining the brand’s strong position among corporate customers, leasing companies and executive vehicle fleets.
A factory that helped transform Hungary into an automotive powerhouse
Audi’s success in Hungary is closely linked to its manufacturing footprint. Established in 1993, Audi Hungaria in Győr has grown into one of the pillars of Hungary’s industrial economy and one of the Audi Group’s most strategic production sites.
The facility is recognised as Audi’s largest engine plant globally, producing petrol, diesel and electric powertrains that are supplied to factories across the Volkswagen Group. It also assembles complete vehicles, including the Audi Q3 and Audi Q3 Sportback, models that are exported to markets around the world.
Today, Audi Hungaria employs around 12,000 people, making it one of Hungary’s largest private sector employers and one of the country’s biggest exporters. In 2025 alone, the Győr plant produced approximately 1.58 million powertrains and around 180,000 vehicles.
