More than just a historical gem with grand architecture, Budapest is harnessing one of its most powerful natural resources – water – to position itself as the Global Capital of Spas.

The Hungarian Tourism Agency (Visit Hungary) is actively promoting the city’s wellness and aquatic tourism offerings, inviting international travelers to discover a European capital where relaxation, adventure, and culture flow together.

Budapest sits atop over 100 thermal springs, making it one of the most geothermal-rich cities in the world, that includes the iconic Széchenyi Thermal Baths, the historic Rudas Baths, and a range of open-air pools such as Palatinus, Dagály, and the recently opened Flava Beach at Kopaszi-gát.

For families and thrill-seekers, Aquaworld Budapest, one of the largest indoor water parks in Europe, delivers all-season aquatic fun, blending relaxation with adventure.

Water, Wellness, and the Danube Experience

Running through the city and dividing Buda from Pest, the Danube River offers not just scenery, but a stage for aquatic activity. From paddleboarding and kayaking to wakeboarding and private sunset boat tours, the riverfront is becoming a magnet for both tourists and local residents.

Notable hotspots include the Római Beach, Kopaszi-gát promenade, and Lupa Beach, a water sports paradise just outside the city center. Travelers can try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on the lake in City Park or head to Jet Park Fundy for a full family water sports experience.
