Turkish food company Dogus Cay is set to establish its first plant outside Turkey in Orosháza, Hungary, in a 42 billion forint investment that will primarily produce chips and other food products.
The investor has already set up its Hungarian subsidiary under the name Karakan Foods Hungary Kft., while specialists recently visited the former Guardian glass plant site where the factory will operate.
The purchase process is expected to be completed by early June, and the technical modifications needed to prepare the plant are already in an advanced stage. Reconstruction is expected to take 10 to 12 months, and accommodation for workers will also be built on site.
First phase starts in 2027
The project is planned in stages. The first production lines, focused on potato chips and corn-based tortillas using local and regional ingredients, could begin operating in Orosháza from 2027. That would be followed by iced tea production, with a new factory unit expected by 2029.
The company plans to process 200,000 tons of potatoes and 50,000 tons of corn in Orosháza. At least 85% of output is intended for export markets, giving the plant a strongly international profile from the outset.
Training and local supply links
The first 15 to 20 specialists will receive training in Turkey so they can take part in launching the Orosháza plant. Mayor János Raffai said local farmers and producers will also be involved from the beginning.
Dogus Cay began as a family business and has since grown into an international food group with 12 factories, annual processing of 2 million tons of food raw materials and relationships with around 70,000 farmers. Chips remain its largest business line, with four plants producing 35 million tons of products annually.
