In a move that underscores its commitment to transforming into a full-fledged marketplace, eMAG Hungary has named Balázs Polgári as its new country manager. The appointment, comes as the e-commerce giant seeks to accelerate its shift from a traditional retailer to a platform-driven business.
Polgári, a company veteran with eight years at eMAG, replaces Kinga Daradics, who departs after overseeing the initial phase of the marketplace transition. While Daradics laid the groundwork for the shift, Polgári now faces the challenge of scaling the model, improving seller tools, and expanding cross-border sales—all while fending off competition.
The leadership change is not just about personnel, but strategy. eMAG, originally a retailer, has been pivoting towards a marketplace model, where it acts as a platform for third-party sellers rather than holding inventory itself.
Polgári’s mandate is clear: expand the marketplace, improve the seller ecosystem, and boost cross-border sales between Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. “My priority is to build on what works and move faster on marketplace development,” Polgári told staff in an internal memo.
