Budapest welcomed 6.03 million visitors in 2024, a 24% increase over the previous year, with 14.7 million overnight stays. Foreign tourists accounted for 87% of the visitors, with an average stay of 2.7 nights, according to Visit Hungary, the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
August was the busiest month, while January saw the fewest visitors. The main sources of tourists were the United Kingdom, Italy, the USA, Spain, Germany, and Romania, with most travelers preferring 4-star hotels.
Budapest’s 2025 Sports Highlights
This year, Budapest‘s events calendar is packed: Tour de Hongrie (May 14–18), covering 885 kilometers, the Judo World Championships (June 13), the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix Hungaroring (August 1), and the Gyulai István Memorial athletics meet (August 12).
On June 1, the ALDI Women’s Running Race takes place, followed by the Senior Sports Festival on June 11, the Mol Campus Bay Swim on June 21, and the KIPRUN ”Run in Light” Night Run on June 28, held along Andrássy Avenue and Heroes’ Square.
Looking ahead to autumn, the Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon will be held on September 7, covering 21 kilometers along the Pázmány Péter Promenade. The Grove Adventure Run on September 21 in City Park offers a family-friendly atmosphere focused on fun and fitness.
