Twelve Hungarian hotels have been included in the 2026 Michelin Guide Global Hotel Selection, with Budapest accounting for ten of them and two properties outside the capital retaining international recognition.
At the top of the selection, the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest and Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel each received Two Michelin Keys, Michelin’s designation for an “exceptional stay.” Hungary has no Three-Key hotel in this year’s selection.
Ten Budapest hotels make the list
Eight additional Budapest properties received One Michelin Key: Anantara New York Palace Budapest, Dorothea Hotel, Hotel Clark Budapest, Kimpton Bem Budapest, Kozmo Hotel Suites & Spa, Párisi Udvar Hotel Budapest, Verno House and W Budapest.
Outside the capital, the Hotel Petit Bois in Balatonfüred and Platán Manor in Tata each retained One Key. All 12 hotels were also part of Michelin’s 2025 Key selection. Hungary had 13 Key properties last year, with BOTANIQ Castle of Tura the only name no longer appearing in the 2026 group.
Michelin defines One Key as a “very special stay,” Two Keys as an “exceptional stay” and Three Keys as an “extraordinary stay.” Hotels are assessed anonymously against criteria including architecture and design, service consistency, character, value for money and their connection to the surrounding location.
Global Michelin Key portfolio reaches 2,832 hotels
After months of anonymous inspections, 470 hotels were newly awarded Keys across 79 destinations, while more than 80 properties moved to a higher classification. The global Key portfolio now includes 2,832 hotels, comprising 2,020 One-Key, 657 Two-Key and 155 Three-Key properties.
The wider Michelin hotel database now covers more than 9,400 properties, up by more than 2,200 since the previous global Key announcement in October 2025. Europe and Asia accounted for the largest numbers of additions in this year’s selection.
