Magyar Telekom delivered another resilient quarter as Hungary’s largest telecommunications operator balanced modest revenue growth with continued expansion of its mobile and fixed networks.
The company reported second-quarter net profit of HUF 56.2 billion, virtually unchanged from HUF 56.0 billion a year earlier, while revenue edged up 1% to HUF 243.3 billion. Gross profit improved to HUF 155.7 billion. For the first six months of 2026, net profit increased 5% to HUF 115.2 billion, while revenue remained broadly stable at HUF 481.4 billion.
Mobile data becomes the main growth engine
Unlike previous years, when inflation-linked tariff adjustments were the principal driver of revenue growth, Magyar Telekom’s latest results increasingly reflect higher network usage.
The company said average monthly mobile data consumption by residential customers continued to grow strongly, rising around 20% compared with a year earlier. The trend helped lift mobile service revenues despite slower growth in handset sales and lower revenue from systems integration and IT projects.
Continued investment in fibre and 5G
Magyar Telekom further expanded its fibre-optic infrastructure, making gigabit-capable fixed broadband available through approximately 3.9 million access points across Hungary. At the same time, it continued extending its 5G network.
