Hungarian frozen bakery producer Pek-Snack is turning into an increasingly regional business after entering three new markets in 2025 and raising the share of exports in group revenue to 42%.

The company reported HUF 12.7 billion in consolidated revenue for 2025, broadly unchanged from the previous year, while after-tax profit increased from HUF 589 million to HUF 619 million. EBITDA margin stood at 19%.

Pek-Snack added Austria, Slovenia and Bulgaria to its international network during the year, bringing the group to nine markets including Hungary. Its regional footprint also covers Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Slovakia.

The expansion has also changed the composition of the company’s revenue. Exports accounted for 38% of sales in 2024, rising to 42% in 2025. Croatia alone contributed approximately 30% of total group revenue, while the other foreign markets generated another 12%.

From a Hungarian bakery to a regional business

Pek-Snack’s international expansion has been gradual. The company was established in Igal in 1998 as a family-owned business focused on frozen bakery products. Croatia became its first foreign market in 1999.

The business changed ownership in 2015, when Hungarian Central European investment company Oriens acquired Pek-Snack. International expansion subsequently accelerated, with Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina added in 2021, the Czech Republic in 2022 and Serbia in 2023.

Croatia is now a major pillar of the group

The importance of the Croatian business stands out in the group’s geographic breakdown. Croatia alone generated 30% of total Pek-Snack revenue in 2025, while all other international markets combined contributed another 12%.

The franchise model is at the centre of the expansion

Pek-Snack’s route to consumers combines its own products with an extensive franchise network and partnerships with retailers. In Hungary, the company works with more than 1,400 franchise partners, while its products are also sold through major retail chains including Aldi, Coop, Lidl, Spar and Tesco.
