Wizz Air will operate 1,200 daily flights this summer, adding 19 aircraft and boosting capacity by 30%, while introducing AI-supported operations and new disruption assistance services for passengers.

The expansion comes as European aviation enters a peak travel period that industry forecasts expect to reach record demand levels during the summer months. European air traffic is projected to grow significantly in 2026.

AI and rapid response teams

To mitigate potential operational disruptions, Wizz Air is introducing a dedicated summer operations task force that will monitor network performance throughout the season.

The airline said a specialized action group will operate from its flight operations center, coordinating responses to delays, cancellations and other operational challenges. The team will maintain around-the-clock communication with customer service units, ground handling providers and communications staff.

Artificial intelligence will also play a larger role in daily operations, helping the airline identify and respond to emerging issues more quickly. In addition, the carrier plans to advance the departure times of selected early-morning flights, a measure aimed at improving schedule predictability throughout the day.

New passenger protection service

The product, known as Disruption Assistance, was developed in partnership with Hopper Technology Solutions and provides passengers with real-time rebooking options in the event of flight delays exceeding two hours or same-day cancellations. Customers can choose alternative flights or request refunds through a dedicated digital platform.

Wizz Air says it is the first European airline to offer the service across its network, positioning the product as an additional layer of protection during periods of elevated travel demand.
