Hungary’s burger habits are changing, even if the classic beef burger still rules the category. New data from Wolt shows that fish, vegan and gluten-free burgers have now entered the platform’s top 10 most-ordered burger types in the country.
Beef burgers remain the most popular choice among Wolt users in Hungary, especially cheeseburgers and versions with bacon, chili or BBQ flavors. Those remain the default fast-food comfort order for most customers.
At the same time, the ranking is no longer as one-dimensional as it once was. Chicken burgers have climbed to become the fourth most popular burger category, showing a clear rise compared with previous years.
Alternative burgers gain ground
The more interesting development is lower down the ranking. Among non-traditional burger types, fish burgers are now the most popular alternative, followed by vegan patties and gluten-free versions.
Fries still dominate the side order
When it comes to sides, Hungarian customers remain very traditional. Most Wolt users still pair their burger with a large portion of fries, making it the clear favorite accompaniment.
The most popular sauce is garlic, followed by mayonnaise and ketchup. After standard fries, the next most popular sides are pepper fries and sweet potato fries, while onion rings rank only fourth.
