Hungary’s used-car market stayed broadly stable in May, with the average asking price at just over HUF 5.5 million, almost unchanged from a year earlier, data, compiled by the Central Statistics Office from Hasznaltauto.hu shows.

Around 36% of listings were for vehicles priced below HUF 2.5 million, a share that has been shrinking, making up just over a third of listings, down about 4 percentage points from a year earlier.

More than 48% of used-car listings were for petrol vehicles, making them the largest category by far. Mileage data also shows a difference between the main fuel types. Petrol cars averaged 153,000 km on the odometer, while diesel vehicles averaged 219,000 km.

EVs stay expensive

Used electric cars were the priciest segment in May, with an average asking price of HUF 11.7 million. There were 5,060 used EVs listed in May, compared with 55,620 petrol cars and 48,870 diesel vehicles.
