Hungarian accommodation providers are heading into the summer with a much stronger booking base than last year. Average pre-bookings for the June–August period are 31.5% higher than at the same point in 2025, and Budapest is doing most of the heavy lifting with a 65.5% year-on-year increase.
The capital’s summer demand has surged, supported in part by major recurring events and festivals such as Sziget, the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix and national celebrations. For June, Budapest’s pre-booking rate is now 31.6%, up from 20.4% a year earlier, while July has nearly doubled to 24.6% from 12.3%.
Rural demand remains steady
Outside Budapest, summer pre-bookings are also up, but at a much slower pace. Regional properties are seeing a 13.3% increase overall, with June at 16.5%, July at 20.4% and August at 16.8%.
The countryside still relies heavily on later bookings, especially in June, where final occupancy tends to rise sharply as the season progresses. Last year, June’s rural booking rate climbed from 14.5% ahead of the season to 42.6% by the end of the summer period.
Booking patterns stay late
The data also show that many guests continue to book relatively close to travel dates. Most summer reservations are still made 4–6 weeks before departure, which means accommodation providers may see further gains as the season approaches.
August remains the strongest month on a historical basis, even though current pre-bookings are lower than later-stage final occupancy typically ends up being. That leaves room for additional demand to build over the coming weeks.
